POSITION 1 NATURAL MINOR SCALE: E SHAPE

Below are two images of the Position 1 (E shape) Natural Minor Scale, based within the CAGED System. The first image displays the scale, highlighting the Root notes. The second image displays the scale whilst highlighting the minor chord shape within the scale. Both images also display all of the scale degrees – R 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7.

How To Practice

When we practice the scale, we first play the minor chord shape, then the scale, and then the chord shape. This helps us internalise where the chord shape falls within the scale. When we play through the scale, we start from the lowest Root note, play up to the very highest note, back to the very lowest note, and then back to the lowest Root note.
