POSITION 4 NATURAL MINOR SCALE: A SHAPE

Displayed below are two images of the Position 4 (A shape) Natural Minor Scale within the CAGED System. The first image focuses on the scale and highlights the Root notes for navigation. The second image highlights the minor chord shape within the scale to show the relationship between the two. Each image also displays all of the scale degrees – R 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7.

How To Practice

We start by playing the chord shape, then the scale, and then the chord shape again. This is to help us internalise where the chord shape falls within the scale pattern. As you play through the scale, start on the lowest Root note, play up to the very top note, back down to the very bottom note, and finish back on the lowest Root note.
