Below is an image that will help with visualising how each of the scale positions interlinks throughout the fretboard. I recommend that all students recreate this image on paper to help the information sink in.
The numbers you see are the Scale Degrees, and the “R”s are the Root notes.
We’ve started with the E shape, as the E shape is also referred to as position 1. D shape, position 2. C shape, position 3. A shape, position 4. G shape, position 5.
After the G shape is reached, you’ll notice we have another E shape/position 1. This is where everything repeats further up the fretboard.
